What is the Cold Chain Innovation Hub?

The Cold Chain Innovation Hub (CCI-Hub) is the official platform for the “Global Partnership for Improving the Food Cold Chain in the Philippines” project. It serves as the project’s central ecosystem of technical resources, training, knowledge sharing and stakeholder collaboration.

The Philippines’ Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) serves as the official host of the physical CCI-Hub at its Regional Training Center in Metro Manila.

Objectives

The goal of the “Global Partnership for Improving the Food Cold Chain in the Philippines” project is to identify, develop and stimulate the development of low-carbon, energy efficient refrigeration innovation technologies and business practices in the Philippines for use throughout the food cold chain whilst increasing food safety and security.

The project has three components:

Policy and regulatory assessment on the use of low carbon and energy efficient technology within the food cold chain.
Awareness and capacity building on the use of energy efficient, climate friendly and safe alternatives in the food cold chain.
Technology transfer and establish partnerships among key stakeholders.

Project Partners

The “Global Partnership for improving the Food Cold Chain in the Philippines” project is implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) together with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the Philippines (DENR) with the Global Environment Fund as the funding partner. The regional project is in collaboration with national and international executing partners from the Philippines and Belgium.

Financial support is provided by GEF to government agencies, civil society organizations, private sector companies, research institutions, among the broad diversity of potential partners, in order to implement projects and programs in recipient countries.

DENR

TESDA

The Philippines’ Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is an official agency of the Philippines national government and is the national authority for the country’s Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Established in 1994, TESDA currently has 17 regional offices located throughout the country as of 2018.
