What is the Cold Chain Innovation Hub?
The Cold Chain Innovation Hub (CCI-Hub) is the official platform for the “Global Partnership for Improving the Food Cold Chain in the Philippines” project. It serves as the project’s central ecosystem of technical resources, training, knowledge sharing and stakeholder collaboration.
The Philippines’ Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) serves as the official host of the physical CCI-Hub at its Regional Training Center in Metro Manila.
The goal of the “Global Partnership for Improving the Food Cold Chain in the Philippines” project is to identify, develop and stimulate the development of low-carbon, energy efficient refrigeration innovation technologies and business practices in the Philippines for use throughout the food cold chain whilst increasing food safety and security.
The project has three components:
The “Global Partnership for improving the Food Cold Chain in the Philippines” project is implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) together with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the Philippines (DENR) with the Global Environment Fund as the funding partner. The regional project is in collaboration with national and international executing partners from the Philippines and Belgium.
Established in 1991 as an independently operating financial organisation, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) works with several partners to help tackle the planet’s biggest environmental issues. Funds are made available to developing countries and countries with economies in transition to meet the objectives of the international environmental conventions and agreements. Financial support is provided by GEF to government agencies, civil society organizations, private sector companies, research institutions, among the broad diversity of potential partners, in order to implement projects and programs in recipient countries.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is the primary agency responsible for the conservation, management, development, and proper use of the country’s environment and natural resources, specifically forest and grazing lands, mineral resources, including those in reservation and watershed areas, and lands of the public domain, as well as the licensing and regulation of all natural resources as may be provided for by law in order to ensure equitable sharing of the benefits derived therefrom for the welfare of the present and future generations of Filipinos.
The Philippines’ Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is an official agency of the Philippines national government and is the national authority for the country’s Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Established in 1994, TESDA currently has 17 regional offices located throughout the country as of 2018.
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is the specialised agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability. The mission of UNIDO is to promote and accelerate Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID) in Member States.
