CCI Hub Joins Technical Forum Celebrating Ozone Day

CCI-Hub through the Global Partnership for Improving the Food Cold Chain in the Philippines (FCC) project was among the initiatives presented during the “Technical Forum on the Promotion of Alternative Substances and Natural Refrigerants for Ozone Layer and Climate Protection” organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau’s (DENR-EMB) Philippine Ozone Desk on September 16, 2022 at Radisson Park Inn in Quezon City.

The event started with a welcome remark by EMB Director William P. Cuñado followed by presentations from Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Ozone Desk, Department of Energy – Energy Utilization Management Bureau (DOE-EUMB), Department of Trade and Industry – Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), among others

Ms. Gilda Garibay and Ms. Bellrose B. Buraga from the United Nations Development Organization (UNIDO) also presented project updates on the Global Partnership for Improving the Food Cold Chain Project in the Philippines and the HCFC Phase out Management Plan Stage 2 Project, respectively.

“The Montreal Protocol is the most successful international treaty in history; however, we should not be complacent. In light of global disruptions and the threat of climate change, we should consolidate the gains from the Montreal Protocol and take it to the next level by merging it with climate action. This synergy is what we need to maximize our outcomes. Through theFCC project, we will continue to promote zero ozone depleting substances (ODS), low Global Warming Potential refrigerants and energy efficiency in the food cold chain”, said Ms. Gilda Garibay, FCC Project Lead.

“While the Refrigeration and Airconditioning (RAC) sector is crucial for the attainment of the Kigali Amendment, RAC technicians can either make or break initiatives by the government to attain this through the management of refrigerants. With proper training and support, we can empower this sector and turn them into ‘green’ skilled workers”, said FCC Capacity Building Coordinator Mr. Manny Azucena.

The theme for this year’s Ozone Day Celebration is “Montreal Protocol@35: global cooperation protecting life on earth”.
